Darna Mana Hai - Come on, what else do you expect from a Ram Gopal Varma production after a spooky Bhoot. Anything that remotely bears the name of mighty RGV is enough to scare the daylights out of a person. Add to it the spooky promos of DMH and you know what to expect from the flick. But RGV, who is the joint producer of the movie along with K Sera Sera begs to differ. According to him, DMH that is directed by debutante` Prawaal Raman cannot be strictly categorized as a horror flick. Whereas Bhoot was more of a 'Holds on to you seats' kinda flick, DMS comes as 'Holds on to your popcorn' !! Some smart distinction this one !!!Another experimental film from the house of Varma, DMH narrated six stories in an episode style that merge into a common climax. Starring a mammoth star-cast of Sanjay Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Nana Patekar, Aftab Shivdasani, Esha Deol, Sohail Khan, Antra Mali, Sameera Reddy, it has music by Salim Suleman (the duo who managed to scare the world by their score for Bhoot).

You wouldn't have missed the title track of DMH by now that shows the revamped Sameera Reddy (Maine Dil Tujhko Diya) in a smart, sexy, sultry avtaar. After a brief hibernation, she has managed to bag a few biggies (including Sanjay Gupta's next) and arrives as a center of attraction in DMH !! Look at her outfit in the title track by Sunidhi Chauhan - Darna Mana Hai and at once you are reminded of the similar dress worn by Urmila in 'Zehreela Zehreela Pyaar - Daud'. Somehow the Urmila effect does make a presence felt in a RGV movie, regardless of whether she makes a direct appearance or not !! The track is written by Lalit Marathe and also sung by Ninad Kamat and Naresh Kamat. Shot in a jungle with wild surroundings (thankfully very different from typical 'kabeela' dances, it is immediately catchy and there are two things that gets etched on your mind after the track is over are - Sameera and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Ever wondered how the nursery recitation of the multiplication table of 2 will sound if composed as a pop track !! Well, no need to wonder any more as Salim Suleman manage to bring the table of 2 to your house from school directly as - 'Do ikadam do, do duni char, do tiya chey, do chauk aath'. Don't blink your eyes, what you have read is absolutely correct as these are the very lyrics of the track 'Homework' by Abbas Tyrewala that has the recitation by children. To add to it, it has been composed as a pop track and is refreshingly different. Raghuvir Yadav, as the menacing teacher who wants the students to complete their 'homework' by any means also lends his vocals for this track that is also sung by Aparna Jha, Clinton Cerejo and Vijay Prakash.

If you thought that 'Homework' is the only different number you have heard in recent times, then wait and 'STOP'. Yes, 'Stop' written by Abbas Tyrewala is what is presented as the only romantic track in DMH. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, it too is remarkably different as it has the couple asking each other to 'Move' and 'Stop' according to their wishes. Composed again as a hard core rock number, it is the best track of the album !! Listen it to believe it. You wouldn't have heard such a composition before !!'Jo Dar Gaya Wo Mar Gaya' is another song picturised on Meghan Reddy and is again pretty fast paced. In this track her look has been worked on to be very different from the one in the title track. Her entire body language is more forceful in this track which again seems just for the purpose of promotion (as was the title track of Bhoot by Sunidhi Chauhan). The song is average as it lacks the punch of the title track !! Written by Taabish Roman, this number is sung by Sunidhi, Naresh Kamat and Salim Merchant. 'No Smoking' sung by Ravi Khote and written by Abbas Tyrewala is perhaps the only drag track in this album which just fails to elevate the proceedings. A song about requesting a friend to quit smoking, it has the vocals stretching on and on !! Though different (somewhat in the league of 'Road Ke Har Mod Pe' from Road), it just tests the patience of the listener who may not be impressed too much by the audio of this situational track at least. Yes, you are not going to hum this one, that's for sure !!The grand finale` arrives with the Darna Mix !! Written by Lalit Marathe and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Ninad Kamat and Naresh Kamat, factually it is not a unique track in the album as it is mainly a DJ mix of all other songs (Title track, Darna Mana Hai, Homework, Stop). Exciting it is, and different too, but not a first of it's kind. That's because a similar experiment of making a DJ mix of various songs of the movie has been done before in one of the forgotten movies of last year - Ab Ke Baras. The track - 'Awaara Dil - Club Remix' . Composer - Anu Malik. Overall, DMH has various exciting songs that keep up the tempo of the album (except for 'No Smoking'). Though the album doesn't have a universal appeal as it is targeted at a specific market, entertaining numbers like the title track and 'Stop' should be good reasons to go for this album.
